About Kay Oliver, APRN
Kathryn "Kay" Oliver, APRN, has over 15 years of experience as a family nurse practitioner providing health care to patients and draws on her extensive insight and background when delivering care. She currently serves patients at Allergy and Asthma Consultants at their offices in Atlanta, Cumming, Roswell, and Duluth, Georgia. She has a passion for helping people with asthma and allergies learn how they can enjoy life to its fullest. Her interest in these chronic conditions is both professional and personal, as she is a mother of a son with asthma and knows the anxiety of late-night/weekend emergency room visits with a child struggling to breathe.
Kay attended Vanderbilt University and graduated magna cum laude from the Medical College of Georgia with a Bachelor of Science in nursing in 1984. She worked in cardiothoracic surgical intensive care in her early nursing years at Crawford Long Hospital in Atlanta, spent some time working outside the health care field and raising her child, and then returned to health care in 2009 after earning a Master of Science in Nursing from Kennesaw State University. She has been treating patients with chronic conditions for eight years as a board-certified family nurse practitioner and has additional training and experience in the specialty of allergy and asthma.
She is a member of the American College of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology, the American Association of Nurse Practitioners, the United Advanced Practice Registered Nurses, and the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing. Her quest for lifelong learning is evidenced by her hundreds of hours of completed continuing education. In addition, her annual attendance at specialty conferences (ACAAI, COLA) keeps her abreast of the treatment of allergies, asthma, and other immunologic conditions.
Kay has called Atlanta home for most of her life, and her family roots in the Roswell area date back many years. She is fond of telling stories about her great uncle, Dr. Thomas Ezzard, the only physician in Roswell at the time, making house calls by horse and buggy. Kay and her husband, Chuck, have recently downsized and are enjoying their new empty-nester status. She loves the outdoors – something she's been able to appreciate more as an adult after overcoming her own severe allergies with a combination of medication, allergy immunotherapy, and allergen avoidance. She is looking forward to helping others achieve this level of normalcy.
