Hay fever is an allergic reaction to pollen. There are several types of pollen and they are released at different times during the year.
Types of Pollen
- Gass pollen is released during the end of spring and at the beginning summer.
- Tree pollen is released during spring.
- Weed pollen is released during late autumn.
Hay Fever Symptoms
- Itchy, watery eyes and mouth or skin

- Runny nose
- Stuffy, congested nose as a result of blockage

Avoiding allergens is always the most effective form of treatment but it’s not feasible for most people to stay inside all day. In some cases, our allergists will prescribe medications to treat hay fever before it becomes a nuisance. At Allergy & Asthma Consultants we do this by beginning a treatment plan prior to the seasons in which the types of pollen you are allergic to spread and become airborne.
Immunotherapy may also be an option to treat your hay fever. By giving you small amounts of pollen as an injection or with a tablet, we build up your immune system so the pollen does not negatively affect you.
