Insect Allergy Treatment
Effective insect allergy treatment begins with an experienced allergist. The allergists at Allergy & Asthma Consultants provide long-term insect allergy treatment to patients in metro Atlanta at their allergy clinics in Sandy Springs, Roswell, Duluth and Cumming, Georgia.
The most effective form of treatment for insect allergies is to identify and avoid contact with the insects to which you are allergic. To determine this, we will begin with a physical exam and allergy test to properly identify the insects, venom and triggers that are causing your symptoms.

Insect Allergy Symptoms
Insect and bug bites from bees, wasps, yellow jackets, hornets, ants, chiggers and spiders generally share the same traits such as:
- Raised red or white bumps that are sensitive or itchy
- Redness
- Pain
- Dizziness
- Difficulty breathing
- Swelling around the tongue, throat or face
Anaphylaxis from Insect Bites
One of the most severe reactions to insect bites is anaphylaxis which can be fatal if not treated immediately. The exact triggers for anaphylaxis can be identified by our allergists. It is not always the bite itself but an allergic reaction to the insect’s venom that causes anaphylaxis. If you are susceptible to this life-threatening condition, it is vital to keep an epinephrine injector on your person when you will be in contact with these insects.
Immunotherapy for Insect Bite Allergies
Severe insect allergies may be treated with immunotherapy. In such cases, our allergists will create a custom treatment plan to include allergy shots that desensitize you to the insect bites and venom that are negatively affecting you. Immunotherapy is highly effective and can reduce your risk of sever allergic reaction to less then 5%.
