Types of Skin Allergies
The most common forms of skin allergy are contact dermatitis, eczema, hives and angioedema.
Contact dermatitis is a rash causes by skin contact with a substance or material which causes an allergic reaction. Treatment for this condition involves identifying the cause of the reaction and avoiding it.
Eczema is an inflammatory skin condition which causes scaly, dry skin, rashes, blisters and skin infections. Eczema is frequently confused with other skin conditions such as psoriasis which makes a proper diagnosis vital to an effective treatment plan.
Hives are red or skin-colored bumps which suddenly appear and disappear. The bumps can appear anywhere on the body and are classified as either acute or chronic. Acute hives may disappear within minutes while chronic hives may last months.
Angioedema is a skin condition which is identified by swelling of the body. This reaction can occur anywhere on the body and is often misdiagnosed as hives. Medication is the most effective form of treatment for angioedema.
